CDDP Texas Abortion Ban Statement
What happened in Texas is a tragedy. It’s also an attack against anyone who has, had and will have the ability to become pregnant. Republican lawmakers have waged war against women by jeopardizing the health and lives of Texans for a little bit of political gain by passing Senate Bill 8, a near-total abortion ban. It is absolutely disgraceful that in the year 2021, women have to jump through hoops and hurdles in order to access the most basic of their fundamental human rights. Abortion is healthcare. Abortion is a basic right. Elected officials are not doctors, and shouldn’t pretend to be when it comes to a simple, safe and necessary healthcare procedure that’s been demonized by extreme right-wing rhetoric. It’s quite clear that this isn’t about healthcare, but a blatant attack on child-bearing individuals when the penalty for having an abortion after you’ve been assaulted is greater than the punishment for rape itself. The Calhoun County Democratic Party stands by abortion providers, advocates, and Texans fighting for their rights against this draconian ban. If you care about your neighbor, your friend, your family member, please speak out, stand up, and donate to support abortion rights in Texas and here in our state. Click Here for more Information |
